Prevent a Fire - Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Many people enjoy their real Christmas trees well into the new year. But as those trees dry out, they become a very dangerous fire hazard.

When your tree is too dry, or you're ready to get rid of it, pleas don't throw it in the garbage.

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County is accepting once-live Holiday Trees, & electronics (including old holiday lights) during regular off-season hours at the Valparaiso Composting Site at 2150 West Lincolnway (SR-130). Collection will begin on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm starting January 9th.

For more ideas on holiday waste reduction and recycling, go to www.itmeanstheworld.org.

Welcome To Our New Website!

Welcome to the new South Haven Fire Department Website. As you look around the site you'll see that some areas are not yet full of information. If you can't find something, check back in a few days because we're adding to the site everyday.

If there's something you'd like to see, just ask.

As this site evolves it will be your window into the things going on at your fire department; training, emergency responses, events and fundraisers.

Thank you for stopping by. Please add us to your Favorites list.

Annual Fund Drive

The South Haven Fire Department is conducting it's 2009 Annual Fund Drive in order to collect donations to fund needed equipment.
For every $5 donation made to the South Haven Fire Department, the individual who donates will have their name entered one (1) time into a drawing for a big screen TV. If a person donates $20, their name will be entered four (4) times into the drawing!
The drawing will be held February 6, 2010, just in time for the Super Bowl! Donations can be mailed to the Fire Station or dropped off in person.

2009 Shop With A Firefighter

On December 15th, members of the South Haven Volunteer Fire Department were able to take local children to the WalMart in Portage to buy gifts for themselves and their families for Christmas. All together 16 children from 9 different families were able to go shopping for presents that they otherwise might not have been able to get for their families. Thank you to the generous donations from IAFF Local 3151 representing Portage and South Haven full-time firefighters, WalMart of Portage, and the many local businesses and individuals who helped these local children to see the miracle of Christmas.
