Apparatus
The apparatus of the South Haven Fire Department have changed drastically since the department’s inception in the late 1950s. Now we have more sophisticated vehicles that can do almost everything, including but not limited to transporting patients to the hospital, extricating patients from wrecked vehicles, and carrying the much need equipment and personnel to the scene of a structure fire. Please take a minute and look through our apparatus page and see some of the equipment that protects you and your family.

Chief 2701 - 2002 Ford Explorer
2701 is issued to the Fire Chief and serves as a command vehicle on any large incident. It carries multiple radios so that the Fire Chief can listen to the fire ground traffic and keep communications with Porter County Dispatch.
This picture was taken when this vehicle was used as the Duty Officers take-home car.
Engine 1 (2711) - 2000 Pierce Dash Pumper
Engine 2711 is a 2000 Pierce Dash Pumper with a 1250gpm pump, 1000gal water tank and 10 gallons each of Class A and Class B foam. It is generally the first out for all non-medical incidents at SHFD. 2711 has 4 jump seats (backseats), an Officer's seat (front passenger), and a driver's seat. It currently has over 1000' of 5" supply hose, 350' of reconnected cross lays, and 400' of 3" supply line that may also double as a ground monitor line. 2711 is outfitted with 5 ISI SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) systems and 8 spare bottles. These SCBA are the top of the line with a computer tracking system installed that can transmit information from the environment that the firefighter is in, back to a laptop computer at the Command vehicle. This information can help Incident Commanders make educated decisions on tactics. This engine also carries the department's thermal imaging camera. This camera aides firefighters in finding fire in a wall or ceiling and can aid in finding victims that are trapped. In addition to firefighting tools, it includes a full set of Hurst Extrication Tools.
Rescue 63 (2763) - 2006 Chevy 5500/AEV Trauma Hawk
Rescue 63 is the second-out ALS Ambulance for the department. It was the first apparatus to display SHFD's new striping scheme. Depending on full-time staffing, EMTs may use 2763 to follow 2761 to medical calls in order to split up the duty medics and maintain ALS ambulance coverage in the community.
Squad 2751 - 2008 Ford F-450
Reading/Darley 250gpm/300gal Skid Unit
Squad 51 serves multiple functions for the department. It is the first-out for brush fires, it is sometimes used as an EMS chase vehicle and can respond to accidents in heavy winter weather with it's four-wheel drive and combi-tool extrication set.
