Welcome
to the South Haven Fire Department's Official website! As you look
around, I hope that you will learn a little more about our department.
In the past, your main source of information concerning the South Haven
Fire Department usually was acquired in one of two ways, either you read
an article in the local newspapers;
The Times or
The Post
Tribune
or, you needed our services and were able to see us in action first hand.
This site is being developed to give you, the community, a chance to get
the latest information first hand and to also offer you a forum to voice
your questions, comments and suggestions. Those of you who find the
need for our services will see unique and special firefighters arrive.
In our fire department, our firefighters place "customer service" as a
#1 priority. In fact, we believe that the relationships we have with our
"customers", The Citizens of South Haven and the unincorporated areas of
Portage Township, is the most important thing. Our
firefighters still pull hose and fight fire the old fashioned way, but
we place a high emphasis on customer contact. We "go the extra mile, we
do the extra deed" to make you proud to call us "your fire department!"
The South Haven Fire
Department is a traditional one, familiar to what you expect a fire
department to be. We are like all fire departments in that we still
fight fires, we still respond to sick and injured community members,
except we drive "White" fire engines. In addition to the public safety
and emergency response that we provide, we are currently working on
providing a wide variety of services to assist our citizens. Public
safety education is a top priority. Your firefighters will teach CPR,
assist in smoke detector placement, give public demonstrations, and
provide general fire safety, business fire safety inspections, building
pre-plan checks, and area checks to ensure your safety.
Lastly, we will involve
ourselves in a number of public activities and community events to
ensure that you know who we are and what we can do for you, if your
non-for profit group is holding a fund raiser, let us know, drop a flyer
off at the station, we especially enjoy “all you can eat affairs” In
fact this site will give you an opportunity to let us know what we can
do for you! The key to a successful fire department is to be a
department that responds and performs in a technically proficient manner
when you call 911. But there is a greater challenge for the fire service
and that is the fire department/customer relationship. The South Haven
Fire Department knows what it takes to provide great customer service,
and to be a successful fire department. Call upon us. You'll be
surprised what your fire department can do for you! The South Haven Fire
Department has grown from a small volunteer department in the early
1960's to a combination Department with a force of 6 career firefighters
and over 35 volunteer firefighters. We staff two Advanced Life Support
and one Basic Life Support ambulance with on duty career Firefighter Paramedics supported by some
of the most dedicated firefighters and EMT’s I’ve ever had the privilege
